Are You A Mouth Breather?

Woman Mouth Breathing

Mouth breathers often have no idea they are even doing it.

It's understandable in a way as breathing is such a natural function. But the mouth wasn't designed for breathing, it was designed for kissing, eating, drinking, talking and laughing.

The only time we are supposed to use the mouth to breathe is when we are faced with a threat.

This is because when we mouth breathe, we take in more air at a faster rate, which helps alert all organs that we are stressed and need to escape a threat. Increased breathing increases heart rate, brain activity, stress hormones and impairs non-essential functions (like digestion and reproductive organs).

Unfortunately, as many of us are constantly stressed by the chaos of modern life, we are regularly mouth breathing and have literally no idea we are doing it nor the consequences.

Next time you watch a show or film, go for a walk, go to the hair dresser or do food shopping, look at peoples mouths and you'll see many have theirs open (even if its just slightly).
