Do you breathe through your nose or mouth?

improve breathing

Seems like a dumb question, right?

The crazy thing is, how you spend the majority of your day breathing, matters. Alot.

When we breathe through the nose, air is warmed, moistened, regulated and filtered. Nose breathing protects the body from toxins, helps keep us hydrated and even helps keep the bodies 'calm' system on.

When we breathe through the mouth, we have dry, cold, unfiltered air directly on out mouth, teeth, tongue, throat and lungs. Constant mouth breathing increases our chance of illness, respiratory issues, dehydration and actually turns our stress system on. The mouth was designed for talking, laughing, eating, drinking, kissing and high intensity exercise.

Consistent mouth breathing actually causes, maintains or aggravates many conditions including anxiety symptoms, bad breath, dry mouth, respiratory illnesses and so (so) much more.

Unfortunately many adults are completely unaware they spend much of their day mouth breathing and have developed 'dysfunctional breathing habits' and the consequences it is having on their physical and mental health.

To start improving your breathing today all you need to do is become aware of your breathing - are you spending most of your day nose or mouth breathing?
